Spot the Imposter

Privacy policy

Effective 5 October 2026

This policy covers Spot the Imposter: Word Game, published by Istralo.

The game has no account and no game server. Your player names stay on your phone. The app shows ads from Google, and Google's advertising software processes some device information to show and measure them.

Who we are

The app is published by Istralo, the name under which Kiran Kashapwar, an independent developer based in Hyderabad, Telangana, India, publishes apps (“we”, “us”). For anything about this policy or your data, write to hello@istralo.com.

What stays on your phone

Your player list, its order and your settings are saved on your device so they are ready next time. You can remove individual players in Edit players. Uninstalling the app removes its local storage; device-level backup and restore settings may also affect copies made by your operating system. Android app backup is disabled.

Words, roles, votes, scores and the list of words already played stay in memory during the current app session. We do not receive them. New game clears the scores and word history while keeping your players and settings. Closing the app's process clears the current session. No account or online game history exists.

The app does not request contacts, precise location, microphone, camera, photos or notification access. It does not record what anyone says. Sounds are optional and off by default.

Version checks

Every Istralo app checks whether a newer version is live in its store, on launch and whenever it returns from the background.

The app fetches a small version file from istralo.com. The request includes no player names, scores, device identifier or account information. It is limited to once every 30 minutes unless a required update is pending. Like any website request, our hosting provider receives ordinary connection information such as your IP address to deliver the file and protect the service. We do not use version checks to build profiles or follow your play. The app keeps the last valid response and any three-day update reminder snooze locally. An offline or failed check does not stop a game unless an already cached required update applies at a calm screen.

Advertising

The app shows an adaptive banner on setup and scoreboard screens when space and an ad are available. It may show an interstitial after every third completed round when you choose Next round, with a time cap. Ads never appear from the private-card handoff through the result. If an ad is not ready, play continues.

Google AdMob may collect an IP address (which can give a rough location), device or advertising identifiers, information about ad and app interactions, and diagnostic or performance information. Google processes this information to deliver and measure ads, improve its services and prevent fraud. Google's processing is described in its privacy policy and information about partner apps. Information may be processed outside India.

We request non-personalised ads only and limit ad content to Google's PG rating. Non-personalised does not mean no data is processed. The app never gives the advertising software your player names, words, roles, votes or scores. It includes no separate analytics or crash-reporting service.

Where required, Google's consent message is offered before ads are requested. When applicable, Settings includes Ad choices so you can change your choice. You can play while offline or when ads are unavailable. On iPhone, the app does not request permission to track across other companies' apps or websites and does not obtain the advertising identifier through an App Tracking Transparency prompt. On Android, you can reset or delete your advertising ID in your device's privacy/ad settings.

What we keep and your choices

We have no player account or game records to retrieve, correct or delete. To remove a saved player, use Edit players. To remove all local app information, uninstall it. For advertising information held by Google, use Ad choices when shown, your device's ad settings, or Google's My Ad Center.

If you email us, we use the message to reply and retain it only as long as needed to handle your request. For privacy questions or requests, including rights under applicable Indian data-protection law, email hello@istralo.com. We aim to reply within 30 days.

Children

The app is a general social game intended for teen and adult device owners, not a service directed specifically at children under 13. Its word packs are family-friendly. An adult should manage the phone and its privacy choices when younger family members join a game. We do not knowingly collect children's names or game information. If you believe information about a child was sent to us, contact hello@istralo.com so we can address it.

Security and changes

Gameplay happens on your device. Version requests and advertising connections use encrypted transport. A private card hides when released or when the app leaves the foreground; anyone holding the phone while a card is revealed can still read it. Do not use sensitive information as player names.

If the app's handling of information changes, we will update this page before releasing that change and revise the date above. Significant changes will also be described in the app's release notes.
