Privacy policy
In short: DeTour has no account and no server of its own. The number and message you type stay on your phone until you open the chat in WhatsApp. The app shows ads from Google, and Google processes some device information to show them.
Who we are
DeTour is published by Istralo, the name under which Kiran Kashapwar, an independent developer based in Hyderabad, Telangana, India, publishes apps (“we”, “us”). For anything about this policy or your data, write to hello@istralo.com.
DeTour is independent and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by WhatsApp or Meta.
What DeTour handles on your phone
- The phone number and message you type. They stay in the app’s memory while you use it. DeTour does not save them, keep a history, or send them to us. When you tap to open the chat, they are handed to WhatsApp (or to WhatsApp’s website in your browser if the app isn’t installed).
- Your chosen country. Saved on your phone so it is ready next time. It never leaves your phone. Uninstalling DeTour deletes it.
- Clipboard. Read only when you tap Paste, and only to fill in the number.
To tell you when an update is available, the app downloads a small file from istralo.com listing the latest version. The request carries no personal information. Like any web request, it reveals your IP address to our host (Cloudflare), which we don't log or use.
DeTour does not ask for access to your contacts, location, camera, microphone or photos, and it has no sign-up.
Once a chat is open, WhatsApp handles it under WhatsApp’s own privacy policy. Messaging this way is not anonymous: the person you write to sees your WhatsApp number and profile as usual. DeTour does not change your WhatsApp settings, and it does not clear your clipboard, browser or WhatsApp history.
Advertising
DeTour is free and shows a small banner ad from Google AdMob below the controls. Ads never stop you from opening a chat.
To show and measure ads and to prevent fraud, Google’s software in the app may collect information such as your IP address (which gives a rough location), device and advertising identifiers, ad interactions, and diagnostic and performance information. Google uses this as an independent company under Google’s privacy policy; see also how Google uses information from apps that use its services. This information may be processed outside India.
- DeTour asks Google for non-personalised ads only. These are chosen by context, not by a profile of you, although Google still processes the information above to serve them.
- DeTour never gives the advertising software the number you type, your message, your clipboard or your contacts.
- Where the law requires it (for example in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and some US states), Google’s consent message appears before ads are shown. You can change your choice at any time from Ad choices in the app, when it is shown.
- On iPhone, DeTour does not ask to track you across other companies’ apps and websites.
- On Android, you can reset or delete your advertising ID in your phone’s settings (Settings → Privacy → Ads, or Google → Ads).
What we keep
We keep no personal information from DeTour and run no analytics. Cloudflare hosts the version file described above; we don't log or use the IP address revealed by the update check. If you email us, we use your email only to reply and delete it when it is no longer needed.
Your choices and rights
Because we hold no information about you, there is usually nothing for us to show, correct or delete. To remove everything DeTour stores on your phone, uninstall it. For information Google holds for advertising, use the Ad choices option in the app, your phone’s ad settings, or Google’s My Ad Center.

Children
DeTour is meant for people aged 18 and over and is not designed for children. We do not knowingly allow children to use it. Ads in DeTour are limited to Google’s “PG” content rating (suitable for most audiences).
Security
The number and message never leave your phone except when you hand them to WhatsApp. Google’s advertising software sends its information over an encrypted connection.
Changes to this policy
If DeTour’s handling of information changes, we will update this page before that version of the app is released and change the date at the top. Significant changes will also be noted in the app’s release notes.
